Designed by Archibald Knox, a silver and enamelled Jubilee founders medallion of the Isle of Man Natural History and Antiquarian Society,
by Thomas Fattorini, Birmingham 1929,trefoil form, the front with blue and red enamel and titled '1879 Isle of Man N.H.A.S 1929', the reverse inscribed 'Honoris Causa P. G. Ralfe M.B.O.U. 22nd Aug. 1929', blue silk ribbon, shaped triangular clasp,(unmarked), height of medallion 3.8cm, approx. weight 0.7oz.
Similar examples can be seen in the Social History Collection of Manx National Heritage. The Isle of Man Natural History and Antiquarian Society was founded in 1879.
Pilcher George Ralfe was an ornithologist and historian, and fellow founder of the Society. He produced numerous articles on the birdlife, coastal scenery and history of the Isle of Man, giving lectures and writing articles for the Society until his death in 1936.
