A COMPTON POTTERY TERRACOTTA 'DOIL' SURROUND
DESIGNED BY ARCHIBOLD KNOX FOR LIBERTY & CO, EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Formed of twelve curved sections and four raised plinths, the tops with a Celtic knot design, impressed stamps in several places 'DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED BY LIBERTY & CO/415225'
15½ in. (39.5 cm.) high at plinths; 154½ in. (392.5 cm.) diameter approx.

The present lot is illustrated in the 1905 Liberty & Co. catalogue as the surround for the Merlin fountain.
