Granite Mountain Roadway
Date made: 1884-1933
Artist: Knox, Archibald
Description: A relatively minimalist but atmospheric watercolour landscape by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) depicting a solitary and probably windswept track over the Manx hills. The painting is identified as the Granite Mountain roadway near Foxdale and the artist appears to have captured the sense of space, open sky and wide panoramic views while only showing one small section of hillside in the distance. As with many of his watercolours, this can be seen as an exercise in capturing the light and a single moment in time.
