Watercolour 123

Hazy Day by the River

Date made: 1884-1933

Artist: Knox, Archibald

Description: An almost monochrome watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) of a group of trees by a river. The river scene may be in the Isle of Man or in southern England. The trees have been painted in muted tones, so that they almost disappear into the surrounding landscape. The pools of light around the trees show that Knox's watercolour sketches can be seen as exercises in capturing the light and a single moment in time.

Measurements: unframed artwork: 43.5 cm x 58 cm
