The Bridge, Old Laxey
Date made: 1884-1933
Artist: Knox, Archibald
Description: A colourful but minimalist watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) of the bridge at the head of Old Laxey harbour and the surrounding houses. Knox's watercolour sketches can be seen as exercises in capturing the light and a single moment in time. In this case, the artist is contrasting the darkness and deep shadows of the three arches under the bridge with the whitewashed buildings behind which are bathed in bright sunlight.
Measurements: unframed artwork: 44 cm x 58 cm
