Watercolour 65

Moorland Scene

Date made: 1884-1933

Artist: Knox, Archibald

Description: A minimalist watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) of an almost featureless cloud-filled sky with the hint of movement representing approaching storm clouds. The painting appears to be an attempt to capture the broad panoramic views of the Island's landscape with the rolling hills in the far distance and the broad expanse of sky above them. Skyscapes, where the light and movement of cloud formations are the main focus of the painting were popular themes for Knox with the landscape or horizon only providing a narrow band at the base of the artwork.
