Watercolour 18

The Forest, Beaulieu

Date made: 1884-1933

Artist: Knox, Archibald

Description: An untypically dark watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) entitled 'Beaulieu' of a very dark woodland scene with light filtering through into a glade in the middle distance. In contrast to most of his watercolour paintings which are exercises in painting fleeting cloud and light conditions, this appears to be an attempt to capture the very muted light of a dark woodland.

Measurements: unframed artwork: 43 cm x 56 cm

Materials: watercolour on paper
