Watercolour 19

The Cronk, Ballaugh

Date made: 1884-1933

Artist: Knox, Archibald

Description: A bleak and minimalist watercolour landscape by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) depicting solitary windswept trees and the Cronk farmhouse partly obscured in the distance. Unlike most of his watercolour sketches which are untitled and unidentified views of the Manx landscape, Knox identified this as the 'Cronk' (Manx for 'hill' and a common Manx place-name element). As with many of his watercolours, this can be seen as an exercise in capturing the light and a single moment in time.

Measurements: unframed artwork: 44 cm x 58 cm
