Low Tide, Inner Harbour, Castletown
Date made: 1884-1933
Artist: Knox, Archibald
Description: A dark brooding watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) of boats at low tide in the Inner Harbour at Castletown. Boats were a popular scene for Knox to paint and there are several paintings of boats in Castletown harbour. Although the background is relatively indistinct and almost abstract in its definition, the Castletown Brewery building can be seen on the left hand side of the painting. The artist is said to have painted his watercolour scenes in a few hours or less, but that he would also sit for hours waiting for the exact light and cloud formations that he wanted to paint.
Measurements: unframed artwork: 44 cm x 58 cm
