The Copse, Foxdale
Date made: 1884-1933
Artist: Knox, Archibald
Description: A stark and minimalist watercolour entitled 'Foxdale' by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) of a small group of trees. The trees on the left are bathed in sunlight, whilst the dark shadows deepen on the right hand trees and grey clouds can be seen gathering over the hills in the background. The artist is said to have painted his watercolour scenes in a few hours or less, but that he would also sit for hours waiting for the exact light and cloud formations that he wanted to paint.
